Shining a Spotlight on Crawley & Horsham AFVBC

Where Camaraderie, Support and Community Come Together.
In our previous article, The Elephant in the Room, we explored some of the challenges that can follow military service—loneliness, isolation, and the struggle many veterans face when adjusting to civilian life.
This time, we want to shine a spotlight on an organisation that is helping to tackle those challenges head-on: Crawley & Horsham Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club.
Crawley & Horsham AFVBC embodies the simple but powerful ethos of “By Veterans, For Veterans.” Their mission is straightforward: to provide a welcoming, supportive environment where veterans and serving personnel can come together, reconnect with the military community, and find friendship, understanding and support.
More Than Just Breakfast
On the surface, a veteran’s breakfast club may sound like a social gathering over coffee and a hearty meal. But anyone who has spent time at an AFVBC knows it can be much more than just that.
For many attendees, the club provides a vital lifeline. It offers a place where veterans can share experiences with people who understand military life, rebuild a sense of belonging, and combat the loneliness that can affect so many after leaving the Armed Forces. The organisation’s wider purpose is to help veterans reconnect with their community, access support when needed, and, as many veterans describe it, “return to the tribe.”
The Crawley & Horsham club welcomes veterans and serving personnel from all branches of the Armed Forces, creating a space where rank, role and service history take a back seat to camaraderie and mutual support.
Building Connections That Last
What makes clubs like Crawley & Horsham AFVBC so important is that their impact extends far beyond their regular meetings.
Friendships are formed. Welfare concerns are identified. Veterans who may have been struggling in silence are connected with support networks and services that can help. An AFVBC club plays a significant role in signposting veterans towards welfare, health and wellbeing support while fostering the kind of peer-to-peer connections that can make a real difference in someone’s life.
In a world where many veterans can feel disconnected from the unique bonds of military service, organisations like Crawley & Horsham AFVBC help ensure that no one has to face challenges alone.
