Swansea Veterans Hub (SVH) is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) that was formed on 24th August 2021, by a small group of veterans who had themselves experienced mental health difficulties.

With the support of Ospreys in the community and Swansea City AFC Foundation, SVH has the use of a room at St Helens RFC.  They will open 10:00 – 12:00 every Saturday at St Helens Stadium. Their drop-in Hub holds coffee mornings where vulnerable veterans can come together in a non-threatening, comfortable environment, allowing specialist volunteers to identify those most at risk, offer wellbeing strategies, and signpost to alternative therapies and treatments.

Demand for their services is expected to grow exponentially and they are seeking to extend the range of services they offer local veterans so that they can, not only provide more high-quality activities specifically designed to tackle mental ill-health, but also strengthen and enhance referral pathways to external sources of specialist help.

A significant number of veterans of the armed forces have PTSD, physical injuries, disfigurements (including amputations) and need help re-building confidence and developing coping strategies to prevent suicide, substance misuse and depression. With the support of the SVH group, help can be provided to enable members access to the support they need, as well as provide opportunities to socialise and build support networks.

SVH fully embrace and support The Armed Forces Covenant by ensuring that those who serve or have served in the armed forces – and their families – are treated fairly. They are the only organisation in Swansea to offer face-to-face interaction for veterans, their spouses, and children, which makes them unique within the community. Without the support of SVH, this can often lead to significant issues to those veterans who require help and are dependent on their partner.

SVH plan to provide veterans and their families with free match day tickets by creating partnerships with both sports clubs’ charities. They will work together to provide a wide range of support facilities to the veteran’s community. They will do this by working with the local authority, Swansea AFLO and armed forces champions, and other organisations that support veterans in the region.
